Tanztee
Tanztee captures the interactions of a local community gathered at a Sunday afternoon dance, where a tenderness between the participants is revealed in a clash of colorful patterns, wrinkles, and jewelry.
The title of the series Tanztee (2012) refers to a regular dance event taking place at a local guesthouse in the village of Polenz in the rural part of eastern Saxony. I zoom in on the intertwined torsos of the participants and the graphic patterns of their clothing as they dance. Like a hinge, the arms and hands of the photographed couples connect the intense colors of the fabrics they wear. In this rhythmic interaction, with its shifting constellations of leading and following, the bodies merge into an eclectic unity. Although no faces are shown, life stories are projected by the aging hands and golden jewelry in the pictures. The fragments reveal a touching and humorous view of our aging society, also playing with vanitas symbols such as watches, jewelry, wrinkled skin, and flowers.
